North Coast 500. A cycling adventure through the Scottish Highlands
The North Coast 500 is a scenic 830 kilometres route that starts and ends at Inverness Castle, the capital of the Scottish Highlands. Launched in 2015 to promote the northern region of Scotland, it has quickly gained a reputation as one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the world. The NC500 passes through the regions of Wester Ross, Sutherland, Caithness, Easter Ross, Black Isle, and Inverness-Shire, offering diverse landscapes ranging from white sandy beaches and rugged mountains to charming fishing villages. Along the way, travelers can visit historic castles such as Dunrobin Castle and discover hidden gems like the Smoo Cave. The route also provides opportunities to observe wildlife, including dolphins at Black Isle, and to taste local whisky at traditional distilleries. Due to its popularity, it is recommended to plan trips outside the peak tourist season and book accommodations in advance.
